Aetna was founded in 1853 and sells health insurance plans and related services such as dental, medical, pharmaceutical, behavioral health, long-term care, and disability plans. Aetna ranked the last 49th year in the Fortune 500 list in terms of total revenue.

Aetna 43 Medicare Advantage plans were sold in 37 states with the highest NCQA ratings, with Connecticut and Maine being noteworthy. The insurance company also sells complementary and prescription medication plans for medical care in 48 states (and the capital) as a combination of supplemental medical insurance for dental, vision, and hearing products.

Aetna provides employer-based health insurance in the private sphere. 4 Aetna plans serve in four states making the NCQA top ranks. Aetna has stopped selling individual insurance plans on health.gov.
